Tottenham Hotspur, have released a club statement this evening that the club and manager Cristian Stelleni have parted ways following the 6-1 horrible defeat suffered at Newcastle yesterday.
Stelleni succeeded Antonio Conte, who left his position about a month ago on a mutual agreement.
Conte leaving the club was foster after the Italian criticized the players and the Directors of the club after slipping off a 3-1 lead in a game.
“For me, this is unacceptable. We are winning 3-1, in control, and conceded two goals,” Conte said after the match.
“I think it’s better to go into the problem, we are not a team. We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart [into it]. This season compared to last, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team you cannot improve.”
“It is easy in this way,” added Conte. “Tottenham’s story is this. Twenty years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.”
Tottenham statement as released:
Dear, All,
“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst I, the Board, the coaches, and the players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.
Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.
Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.
I met with the Player Committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances that earn your amazing support.”
COYS, Daniel
