Super Falcons were knocked out from the AWCON last night in a difficult and enthralling game against the host nation Morocco. The defending champions despite being down to 9 women were resilient and dragged the game to 120 minutes at Rabat.
Falcons were reduced to 9 women during the encounter, despite being down at 48 minutes to 10 women, they took the lead by 1-0 and later had their power reduced with another red card to Ajibade Rasheedat.
The Moroccan equalized minutes to end the game through an own-goal error from Nigeria’s defender.
The game ended 1-1 at full time and the same scoreline after 120 minutes.
The Falcons missed their second spot kick during the penalty shot out and Moroccans scored all their goals from the spot kick.
Morocco will play South Africa in the final on Saturday, while the Falcons will play Zambia for third place.
Waldrum Randy head coach of the Falcons said; “We wanted to win the game, not just the World Cup ticket. Our substitutions were spot on, and we can’t ask for more from the players, they gave their best.”
Randy; “We (Coaches) can’t comment on officiating, we will get into trouble.”
“We were controlling the game until after the first red card, then the second red card, I will put it this way.”
“I’m proud of the girls,” he added.
