Watford FC who got promoted alongside two other English counterparts teams Norwich City and Brentford from the Championship to the first tie of the English league EPL has been confirmed to relegation last night after their defeat to Crystal Palace by 1-0. They were confirmed along with Norwich City as well.
Wilfred Zaha scored the palace’s only goal after an error was committed by Watford on the spot area. Watford after 35 games accumulated 22 points, which is less than the number of matches they have played. Watford won only six games, the least after Norwich, and was defeated 25 times, the most by any English club this season in the EPL. They scored 32 goals, but only Dennis Emmanuel scored 10 of those goals. They conceded 70 goals, ending 35 games with a 38-goal deficit.
Watford’s relegation is not a good one for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, as 8 of Watford’s players are relegated. Assistant Captain Troost Ekong, Dennis Emmanuel, Egenekharo Etebo, Samuel Kalu, Dele Bashiru(On loan), Joseph Hungbo(On loan), and Maduka Okoye who will join Watford from Rotterdam in the Dutch league.
The implication may be as despicable as Super Eagles may only have a few senior players in notorious teams in Europe, should these players remain with Watford next season. Although there has been a divergence of opinion that home base players should be tried over some of these players in Europe, could this be the right time for the Amaju Pinnick and the team to consider deploying a different philosophy to the Super Eagles who were poor in the just concluded Nations Cup in Cameroon and failed to qualify for the World Cup?
Meanwhile, Tosin Adarabioyo has gained promotion to the EPL with Fulham who won the Championship last week and will play in the top league. Although Tosin is yet to honor Super Eagles’ call as it stands. Bournemouth was promoted along with Fulham to the EPL.
