Lisandro Martinez has been announced by Manchester United today after completing all necessary paperwork for a transfer deal of around €55m from Eredivisie champions Ajax. Lisandro is Ten Hag’s third summer arrival, following the acquisition of Malacia and Eriksen.
The 24-year-old Argentine can play perfectly all roles as the defender, having been tested and trusted by Ten Hag.
Last season, he made 36 appearances for Ajax and was pivotal in Ajax’s title defence.
Manchester United on their official website said:
“Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, subject to medical, player terms being finalized, and UK visa requirements.”
He made his debut with Argentina national team on 22 March 2019 where he has featured 7 times for the Copa América champions.
Manchester United looks forward to addressing the defensive loopholes suffered last season, with the team not recording any goals after the season ended.
Ten Hag has stated that Harry Maguire remains the club captain and will be part of his plans. This has now left many Manchester United fans in doubt about who will be preferred between Harry Maguire, Martinez and Varane.
