NPFL ROUND8 RECAP: Plateau wrecked El Kanemi while Remo held Kwara to a stalemate. 

Round 8 of the NPFL games produced some blockbuster encounters during the midweek fixtures in which eight games were played across the abridged league of groups A and B. One of the biggest rounds for the home clubs as six home records were made and two draws. Sixteen goals were scored in both groups. Rivers United's game against Enugu Rangers was postponed as a result of the defending champions' involvement in the continental tournament.

NPFL ROUND8 RECAP: Plateau wrecked El Kanemi while Remo held Kwara to a stalemate.

Plateau United 5-0 El Kanemi.

Plateau  defeated  El Kanemi by a  5-0, producing the most win result this season. It took Anthony Sunday just two minutes to open the scoring chat for Plateau at the Jos Township stadium, Plateau took charge of the game in both halves, scoring 3-0 in the first and 2 goals in the second half. They have closed the gap to 6 points to Insurance.

 

Kwara United 0-0 Remo Stars.

Sky Blues held United to a stalemate at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan. Remo has not won any of their previous three games in the league despite starting well at the start of the season. The recent poor feat has seen them drop from third place to fourth place, while Kwara is just a point adrift from relegation.

 

Wikki Tourist 2-1 Lobi Stars.

Wikki ended Lobi Stars’ unbeaten streak since the season began. Before tonight’s game, Lobi had won six games and had a draw. Mohammed Guda’s brace aided Wikki to their victory in Bauchi. Lobi attempted to salvage a point by pulling back, but it wasn’t enough for the Bauchi-based club. Regardless of the slim defeat, Lobi still maintained their position at the top of the log, while Wikki escaped relegation with a point. Wikki picked the first win since it parted ways with coach Dogo.

 

Bendel Insurance 1-0 Nasarawa 

Bendel with the victory at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City means the Benin Gunners remain the only unbeaten club this season after 8 games. Akobundu’s second-half strike was enough to seal all three points for Insurance, who sit comfortably on top of their group with 20 poNasarawa’ssarawa survival remains doubtful as they remain bottom of the table with only 4 points. 

 

Enyimba 2-0 Shooting Stars 

The People’s Elephants remain electrifying this season under the tutelage of Finidi George. Enyimba capitalized on Obioma chukwuemeka’s brace in the first half to earn the massive three points and a clean sheet. As well, Obioma has now registered 7 goals to his name, which is the most by any player so far. Enyimba keeps itself behind insurance, with only four points separating both. 

 

Doma United earned a narrowing win against Warriors and Sunshine Stars lost away at Dakadda FC.
