The Pride of Rivers will be crowned NPFL Champions of 2021/22 season should they win nine games from the remaining eleven games. A milestone record by Stanley Eguma, the former Dolphins FC manager. Coach Stanley Eguma is a notorious manager in the league who last won it with the defunct Dolphins in 2014 and could peck the Pride of Rivers to their first-ever league title since 1972.
Akwa United 1-1 Enyimba FC.
The Peoples Elephant held defending champions to a 1-1 draw at the Nest of Champions Stadium, Uyo. Deji Ayeni had their game’s plans yanked off after Victor Mboama neutralized Babatunde Martins’s goals in the extra minutes of the encounter. Only Isahq Kayode has scored more goals than Victor Mboama who has now netted 12 goals for Enyimba this season.
Enyimba retains their 7th spot while Akwa United moves one place up to the 5th position on the log.
Kano Pillars 2-1 Kwara United.
Sai Masu Gida picked a win at MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja against Kwara United over the weekend. Pillars had suffered a two deduction and were banned from playing on their turf following fans’ unhealthy attack on Katsina United during the north derby. Pillars remain in the relegation zone despite their victory and could move away with another victory in the next round, meanwhile Kwara United drop to 6th position on the log.
Nasarawa United 2-1 Plateau United.
Nasarawa dealt a blow to Plateau United’s resilient push on the NPFL towards Rivers. The defeat at Lafia means Plateau United is now seven points adrift of league leaders on the table. Sunday Okereke and Chinedu Ohanachom scored Plateau United goals that helped them triumph over the Tin City Side.
Plateau remains second on the log, while Nasarawa United with 35 points is spotted in 12th place.
Rivers United 5-0 MFM
The biggest game of the week was between Potential champions Rivers and Mountain of Fire Football Club. Rivers put five past the 20th place club Remo at the Adokiye Amiesimika Stadium, Rivers. Chijoke Akuneto scored a hat trick to roll his tally to eleven goals this season, and Isahq Kayode scored his 14 goals of the season and George Akpabio made it 5-0 for the Pride of Rivers.
Rivers now go seven points clear on the table, as MFM’s poor form could mean they will be playing in the NNL next season.
Abia Warriors 2-0 Remo Stars
Warriors dent The Blues Star’s hope of playing in the CAF competition beating them to 2-0 over the weekend, Remo Stars are now two points deficit of CAF confederation spot as they sit below Enugu Rangers at 4th place.
