Both sides went into this huge matchup knowing it was truly a six-pointer in their fight for PL survival. However, it was evident throughout the first half why they find themselves in a relegation dogfight, as there was a lack of quality on display with no real chances on goal. The frustration was beginning to show on the pitch, as ‘Hornets’ teammates Joshua King and João Pedro clashed with heated words right before HT, after a promising attack failed to materialise.
Norwich came out in the second half with a lot more intent, and their bravery paid off as they broke the deadlock in the 51st minute. Teemu Pukki did brilliantly to chase down a loose ball, and after winning possession, he clipped the ball into the box towards Josh Sargent who fabulously flicked it in with a scorpion kick – marking his first ever PL goal in incredible fashion.
Play was interrupted in the 60th minute due to a floodlight issue, and after a delay of 10 minutes, they were finally able to carry on. The ‘Canaries’ doubled their lead right after play restarted, when Milot Rashica sent a brilliant cross into the box and Sargent met the ball with a powerful header, making him the first Norwich player to score an away PL brace since 2012. After falling two behind, Watford tempers rose, and Emmanuel Dennis was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle, heaping further pressure on his teammates.
With a two-goal lead and victory in their sights, it was all about game management for Norwich, but after the delay due to the lighting issue, they found themselves having to work extra hard with 15 minutes added on after the 90. However, the tension was eased after Juraj Kucka knocked the ball into the back of his own net to make it 3-0.
