A week to reckon upon for Nigerian players in Europe will surely be this week. The Nigerian players stepped up their games this week across Europe. Despite the Super Eagles crashing out from the World Cup, some players have decided to step up their games for their respective clubs.
Meanwhile the World Cup qualifiers has caused a negative consequence on some of the Eagles players as playing time now becomes tough.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Leicester City
The Leicester City forward was in action for Leicester over the weekend against Tottenham hotspur. Despite Leicester losing the game by 3-1 Kelechi scored Leicester’s only goal in that encounter. The 25-year-old has scored 8 goals this season and made 9 assists for Leicester City in all competitions.
Victor Osimhen, Napoli.
Napoli raided Saussaulo to a 6-1 victory over the weekend. Super Eagles striker Osimhen was involved in two of those goals, he scored his 13th goal of the season and grabbed his second assists of the season in the encounter. Napoli is confident to play Champions League football next season but has slimmer chances of winning the Serie A as they are seven points adrift league leaders AC Milan.
Simon Moses, Nantes.
Simon braced for Nantes in the first half of their encounter against Lens. Simon Moses is set to surpass his most goals numbers since joining Nante three seasons ago, as he has never scored above 6 goals. Currently, on 6 goals and the 7th most assists’ player in the league. However, Lens came from behind to level the game at 2-2 at full time.
Alex Iwobi, Everton FC
Everton gained a victory over Chelsea to a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park. It has been good for Everton against big sides lately. Won against Manchester United and Chelsea, a draw with Leicester. Iwobi, who has found favor under Frank Lampard, played full-time in Toffees Triumph. Richarlison struck for Everton, a scoreline that stood until full time. Everton with a game at hand could move away from the relegation zone.
Terem Moffi, Lorient.
Terem was a big star for his club over the weekend, when the Nigerian forward leveled the game at 1-1 in the first half for Lorient. The game ended 1-2 in favor of Reims. Moffi, who has only missed a league game for Lorient, remembers scoring 8 goals this season with 4 assists. With 34 points after 35 games mean, Lorients need a step-up to avoid relegation.
Samuel Chukueze, Villarreal.
Yellow Submarine lost 2-1 at Alaves over the weekend, but a compatriot stood out, scoring Submarine’s only goal in the encounter. It’s suspected that Unai Emery had rested players for their biggest tie against Liverpool in the Champions League. It was reckoned that Chukwueze’s goal against Munich in the last minute helped Villarreal reach this stage.
Anthony Nwakaeme, Trabzonspor
Anthony Nwakaeme was an unused substitution following their 2-2 draw against Antalyaspor when Trabzonspor clinched the title, the Nigerian-born striker has made 25 appearances for the champions this season and has netted 11 times and made 10 assists, only Umet Bozok of Kasimpasa has made more goals’ contribution than the Nigerian. Hopefully, he could get another chance to represent the Super Eagles again.
Some players played actively for their clubs and futures full time during the weekend. Calvin Bassey and Joel Aribo were involved in their 1-1 draw against Celtic at full time.
Maduka Okoye in the goal post when Rotterdam were held at home to a 1-1 draw by AZ Almanarr. Maduka with Relegation-threatened Rotterdam and already has sealed a deal with delegation threatened Watford in English.
