Sometime in December 2021, the NFF appoints Augustine Eguaveon and other coaching members following the discharge of Genort Rohr. Eguaveon was appointed along with Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer). Former Nigeria captains, Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Garba Lawal, have been appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.
His stepping was stirred by the Super Eagles’ failure to go beyond the Round of 16 in the AFCON 2022 held in Cameroon. The Super was the only team to have kept a 100% winning record in the group stage but lost disgracefully to Tunisia in the Round of 16.
What would have erased the horrible memories of the AFCON from the heart of Nigerians would have been the Super Eagles qualifying for the World Cup. Unfortunately, Nigeria was knocked out by the Black Stars of Ghana.
From the website of NFF, Sportjuice9ja gathered the below information:
Following the failure of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the erstwhile Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen, has stepped down from that position with immediate effect.
The NFF has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half-year contract offered to the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect. A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavors,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi
