Red Bull star Max Verstappen is the new Formula 1 world champion after winning an enthralling race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton led for the majority of the race after a strong start, but it all came down to the last lap, following Nicholas Latifi’s crash in the 53rd lap.

The safety car exited in order to allow a one-lap shootout, which Verstappen, who was on new tyres, won. Mercedes were left livid and will no doubt request a thorough explanation.
