Remo Star duo Andy Okpe and Isah Ali playing permission in the Nigeria Professional League has been withdrawn by the League Management Company following their involvement in a match-fixing between two Ghanaian Premier League clubs Ashanti Gold FC and Inter Allies SC last season.
Both players joined NPFL side Remo Star this season from Inter Allies of Ghana. The players were involved in a match-fixing that occurred last season between Inter Allies and Ashanti Gold.
Ashanti Gold won Inter Allies 7-0 in the last game of the Ghana Premier League and avoided relegation. Inter Allies, whose relegation was already confirmed as a 20th place team, conceded to the horrendous act of fixing the game to Ashanti Gold’s advantage.
With this, the Ghanaian Football Federation level a stiffened sanction on Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies who will be demoted to division two which will take effect from next season and were fined. The presidents, coaches and some team players have also been suspended.
Reacting to this LMC ordered Remo Star to immediately revoke the services of both players indefinitely.
Andy Okpe and Isah Ali have been pivotal in Remo Star’s top 3 push this season. Okpe has scored 10 goals in the league and Ali recently got an Invitation to the camp of the Super Eagles.
