Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez is set to miss the rest of the World Cup moment after the 26 years old picked up an injury just 13 minutes into the game France played yesterday against Australia. Lucas was replaced by his brother Theo Hernández of AC Milan. According to several reports the injury is severe and Lucas could consider retiring from football.
Bayern Munich released a club statement:
Lucas Hernández suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in France’s opening match against Australia (4-1) at the World Cup in Qatar. The defender will now return to Munich for further tests and then undergo surgery.
FC Bayern board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić: “The doctors of the French national team informed us that Lucas Hernández had ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee. Of course, we were all shocked and very sorry to hear that. But Lucas is a fighter and will make a strong comeback. He’ll now leave Doha very soon, come to us, then have surgery and start his rehab in Munich, where he’ll be given every possible support.”
Bayern striker Sadio Mané also suffered an injury that ended his hopes of playing at the World Cup.
