Yusuf was appointed in October for a second stint in Kano, replacing former boss Ibrahim Musa Jugunu who departed the four-time league champions after his contract lapsed at the end of last season.
Former Enyimba coach Yusuf led Enugu Rangers to a seventh-place finish in the 2020-21 NPFL season. He will combine his role in Kano with his job as Super Eagles assistant manager having been reinstated to the national team following a one year ban for accepting bribes from an undercover investigative journalist who posed as a player’s agent in 2018.
Speaking at the unveiling, Dr. Gawuna who represented Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed confidence in Yusuf as the man to resurrect the Sai Masu Gida as a potent force on the domestic and continental scenes once more.
“Salisu is highly experienced, having coached the Super Eagles National Team,” Dr. Gawuna remarked.
“We have confidence with him at the helm of affairs, he will return the club to its rightful place in Nigerian and African football.”
Pillars finished in fifth place last season and having achieved a second-place finish in his first stint, Yusuf would hope to do one better and lead the club to their first league crown since 2014.
