Ivorian Ligue1 player Moustapha Sylla has had his life cut short after collapsing during a League match between his club Racing Club d’Abidjan and SOL FC yesterday at Robert Champroux Stadium in Cote d’Ivoire. The 21-year defender was in the selected starting line up yesterday but unfortunately could not end the game due to his tragic passing away.
The game continued after Moustapha collapsed and was helped by the medical team from the pitch, Mohamed Ouattara brace and Valy strike aided Racing triumph by 3-1 at full time.
The club of the deceased made the announcement of his departure via the club’s official Facebook page.
“MOURNING
Our defender Sylla Muostapha has passed away this evening as a result of discomfort on the pitch during the match between RCA and Sol FC.
The management sends sincere condolences to the Biological family. Rest in peace, Moustapha.”
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed his shock and sadness following the tragic death of the Ivorian youngster, Sylla Moustapha who collapsed on the pitch during the Ivorian Ligue 1 LONACI fixture between his club, Racing Club d’Abidjan and SOL FC
CAF on their official website said:
“Dr Motsepe and the CAF Family mourn the tragic passing of such a young life who showed promise on the football field.”
“CAF conveys deepest condolences to the family of Sylla Moustapha, Ivorian Football Federation President Idriss Diallo, Racing Club d’Abidjan Family and the Ivorian people during this time of grieving.”
His club said he was buried yesterday according to Islamic rights.
“Following the death of defender Sylla Moustapha during the meeting against SOL FC, we inform you that his burial is scheduled for today March 6 at the Dabou Municipal Cemetery.”
Racing Abidjan are currently in 7th place on the league table with 27 points after 20 games.
