Governor Nyesom Wike during the grand reception ceremony at the government house, Port Harcourt rewards each player/Official of Rivers United 20,000 dollars for claiming the title for the first time since the club was merged in 2016.
Rivers were crowned NPFL Champions for 2021-22 after claiming most points (77), most wins (23), and most goals scored (58).
At the ceremony, the governor also knighted each member of the team with the Governor Merit Service Award (GMSA) for their landmark success.
Winning the NPFL already secured an automatic ticket for Rivers in the next season’s CAF Champions League. To ensure that the team won the continental trophy next year, Governor Wike approved European Pre-season camping for Rivers United, specifically mentioning Madrid, Spain as their camping site.
