There will be no back-to-back UEFA Europa League wins for Nigerian players with yet another penalty shoot decider after 120 minutes of action. Last season, Samuel Chukwueze won the prestigious trophy with Yellow Submarine following their triumph over Manchester United via Penalties. Well, the reverse was the case last night for Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, and Leon Balogun who missed the trophy via spot-kick.

Ranger’s spot-kick, 50 years of drought lingers after Aaron Ramsey’s penalty was saved by Kevin Trapp. The former PSG man-made history last night by helping Frankfurt secure their first for 42 years of effort.

Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey started for the Rangers at Seville, and Leon Balogun was an unused substitute. Nnamdi Ofoborh is another Nigerian who joined Ranger last season from Wycombe FC and is currently sidelined as a result of heart problems since joining the Teddy Bears.

In the hard game, Joe Aribo penned his name into history scoring Just 17 minutes into the second half, Joe Aribo’s goal lit up Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Seville Stadium. After 12 Columbia striker, Rafael Borre equalized Aribo’s goal. The game which ended 1-1 at the full time went on to extra time and was decided by penalty since no goal came forth. The penalty which ended 5-4 went in favor of Frankfurt with Aaron Ramsey missing and Kevin Trapp saved.
