Barcelona are crowned the Champions of La Liga after a 6 goals thriller derby match against Espanyol in Cornella. Barcelona triumph by 2-4 to win their 27th title in club history and the first under young manager Xavi. Barcelona initiated 14 points gap between them and Los Blancos with four games to end the season.
Robert Lewandowski brace, Balde and Joules Kounde goals were enough to seal all three points for Barcelona on a turf they had to be shielded and escaped for their lives after the game.
Regardless of Barcelona clinching the title, there are still more to play for; the golden boot race between Lewandowski and Benzema, top four and relegation survival.
Coach Xavi Hernández The was more delighted than anyone with his side’s achievement:
“I have the feeling that it is a job well done. We started in July, and we have put in an extraordinary league campaign. It’s really important for the stability of the project, and it confirms that we are going about things the right way.”
On the win against Espanyol, Xavi admitted it was “the moment to show that we could be brilliant.” He continued: “It’s not Xavi’s league, it’s Barça’s league title, a Barça that is growing and developing. I am delighted for the players, for the staff and for the board…I feel really proud to coach these players.”
