While the transfer window Is still open until September 1, 2022, here is compiled a list of all Super Eagles players who switch allegiance from the club they represented last season to another club.
- Maduka Okoye (Rotterdam to Watford).
Nigeria’s number one Maduka Okoye switched club allegiance from Rotterdam from the Netherlands to Watford, who unfortunately were confirmed relegated from the English top flight league at the end of the season. Although, Watford didn’t disclose the amount involved in the deal and said the 22-year-old will complete the season with Sparta Rotterdam after signing a five and a half years deal. He joined Watford following the end of his season at Rotterdam.
- Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin to Nottingham Forest)
Taiwo Awoniyi joined Union Berlin in a record transfer this season. The Kwara-born striker joined the newly promoted side for a deal of around €17.5m. Awoniyi is expected to replicate his form at Union Berlin in his new club, as he’s set to lead the club’s attack next season.
- Joe Aribo (Rangers to Southampton)
Joe Aribo is another Super Eagles player who has switched club loyalty this summer from Rangers to Southampton in England. The former Charlton Athletic player joined Southampton in a deal worth £10m. He is considered one of the youngest promising talents in football, after making over 70 appearances for club and country, more than any player in the world last season.
- Calvin Bassey (Rangers to Ajax)
Massey joined Ajax from Rangers this season as a replacement for Lisandro Martínez who reunited with Ten Hag at Manchester United. He signed a long-time contract with the Eredivisie Champions worth €23m. Bassey is versatile and can play any role in the defence.
- Chidera Ejuke (Spartak Moscow to Hertha Berlin)
The Nigerian winger terminated his contract with the Russian club Spartak Moscow as per multiple sources to join Hertha Berlin for a loan move. While a part of the Eagles team coached by coach Eguaveon during the AFCON tournament in Cameroon. He has since then not received any invitation from Jose Piseiro who was confirmed as Super Eagles head coach.
- Leon Balogun (Rangers to none).
Balogun was released by the Rangers following the end of his contract this summer. The Nigeria defender is currently a free agent and he’s yet to identify himself with a club.
- Peter Etebo (Watford to Stoke City)
Watford during this summer included Peter Etebo’s name among players the club has let go. Although, the Nigerian midfielder could not live up to the expectation following the long-time injury he sustained. He has returned to Stoke for next season.
Rangers Glasgow suffered most from the transfers of Nigerian players, as three of the active four players left the club this summer.
