Ademola Lookman scores, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho features in Leicester City 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Leicester City became the first team to beat Liverpool in the Premier League (PL) in December in five years, whilst also ending their 34 game scoring run, as the ‘Foxes’ secured a 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

Manchester City pulled no punches in inflicting a 6-3 drubbing on Leicester on Boxing Day, with two of those City goals coming from the spot. Giving penalties away is a habit Leicester need to snap out of, and they had seemingly shot themselves in the foot again tonight when Wilfred Ndidi felled Mohamed Salah in the area. The Egyptian dusted himself off to take the penalty, but his effort was saved by Kasper Schmeichel and his headed rebound cannoned back off the crossbar. The Dane produced another stunning one-handed save to tip over the bar when Salah struck golwards from point-blank range, ensuring honours were even at HT.

Liverpool ramped up the pressure after the break and Sadio Mané spurned a glorious chance to fire them into the lead when he latched onto Diogo Jota’s perfectly weighted through-ball, but he lifted his effort over the bar. That old footballing proverb – “you have to score whilst on top” was ringing true for Liverpool, as former Everton man Ademola Lookman drove at the heart of the ‘Reds’ defence before rifling an unstoppable effort past Alisson to fire the ‘Foxes’ into the lead.

Jota was in the thick of the action for Liverpool, but the closest he came to finding an equaliser was a glancing header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner which drifted harmlessly wide of the target. Leicester held on for a victory that avenges their Carabao Cup exit last week and secured back-to-back league victories over Liverpool for the first time since 1999.
